Christmas Favorites on Day 1

It’s December 1st. In light of the holiday season, we’re going to post 25 days of movies, songs, recipes, and places to help celebrate the holiday season. Check back each day to see what the daily favorites are.

Movie

Frosty the Snowman – While the original version was filmed in the 50’s in Johnstown, PA, the most popular version is Rankin Bass version from 1969. This leads us to the song of the day. Also, check out the Frosty website at http://www.frostythesnowman.com/.

Song

Frosty the Snowman – There are numerous versions of this hit that are popular. The version that goes along with the movie was sang by Jimmy Durante. In 1950, Gene Autry sang one of the earliest versions. Perry Como followed up with another version later in the decade.

Recipe

Sweet Potato Pierogi – This is one of those recipes that mixes a Polish tradition with a holiday tradition. The filling is quite simple. After boiling 2 medium size yams, mash with:

1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 cup parmesan
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 Tablespoons brown sugar

Place

Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem – If you ever wanted to check out shops focused on the holiday and holiday gifts, this is definitely the place. Past years have focused on nutcrackers, traditional clogs, and original décor. Check out the Christmas City website for more details.
